Bantam White Silkie

$4.50

Bantam White Silkie chickens originate from an ancient breed line also known as Taihe chickens.   Known as a rather unusual variety, the Bantam Silkies are widely regarded for their docile disposition, and attentiveness to their offspring.  For this reason, Silkies can set on their own eggs and hatch their own chicks at a very respectable rate.  Egg production will range from 90-120 cream color eggs per year.

Bantam White Silkies are very friendly and make outstanding pets!  They are a quiet chicken that doesn’t fly very well due to the nature of their feathers.  While this kind of stinks for the chicken, it’s nice for you since the unique feathers make the chicken very soft, cuddly, and pretty to look at.  These are non-bearded Silkies (meaning the wattles below the beak are exposed) and mainly come in white, maybe a few tan or even Black are possible.  Roughly half of birds will have top crest, and the other half will not.

This Bantam White Silkie can also be raised for meat production, reaching an average weight of 2.5 lbs in 12 weeks.  With black skin, black bones, and very dark meat, this variety is perfectly suited for specialty meat markets. They will also need extra protection from the elements over the winter.  If you are looking for a rather unusual variety, vastly different from our other straight run varieties, try the Silkie.  These birds are not considered show quality.
