The Freedon Ranger Color Yield Broiler is a fast-growing meat bird with most of the same qualities as the Cornish Cross breed. These broiler strains are imported French hybrid strains that were developed from Continental and American heritage chicken breeds in the 1960’s. They were started because of the Label Rouge program for free ranging chickens. The Color Yield Broiler tends to forage more and grow at a slightly slower rate than the Cornish Cross, but faster than the Red Ranger. The Color Yield Freedom Ranger is the standard RedBro female crossed with a faster growing Color Yield male. This cross produces a faster growing red broiler with white underlying feathers, which is nicer for processing. These birds should grow approximately 1 week faster to processing weight than the standard Freedom Rangers. Freedom Ranger color Yield broiler chicks have yellow beaks, shanks, and skin.
We Recommend Feeding Color Yield Broilers a 21-22% protein starter for the first 2-3 weeks then switch to a 18-19% protein grower until week 7 and finish out feeding with a 16-17% protein finisher feed. If any of your birds experience any leg problems, it is likely due to a deficiency. Vitamins added to their water will usually clear this up with 24-48 hours.
